Weekly Tech Briefing — October 2, 2026
Markets bounced back, Tesla Cyber Cab hits 500 vehicles, Apple HomePad launch set for October 13, Anthropic plans IPO, and more in this week's tech briefing.
Markets bounced back Thursday to close a volatile start to October. The S&P 500 gained two-tenths of a percent, the Nasdaq eked out a quarter-point gain, and the Dow recovered to flat after a rough morning. Tech led the rebound, fueled by strong earnings from memory chip maker Micron.
Markets
The 10-year Treasury yield hit a 24-year high before pulling back. Energy stocks outperformed. All in all, a volatile start to October that ended better than it began.
Tesla
Tesla had a packed week:
- Cyber Cab fleet in Austin crossed 500 vehicles
- Robo Taxi app is holding strong
- Q3 delivery numbers due any day — analysts expect ~461,000 vehicles, down roughly 7% from a year ago
- $30 billion in new credit lines secured to fund AI, robotics, and energy expansion
- Bearish sentiment on Wall Street hit a three-year low
- Emergency driveaway feature lets drivers leave a Supercharger while still plugged in
Apple
Apple is reportedly building a smart home ecosystem. Rumors include a security camera that describes events in text instead of recording video — privacy-focused, but unusual. The HomePad launch is expected October 13. Meanwhile, iOS 27 is rolling out with Siri AI in beta, giving the assistant personal context and system-wide actions.
AI News
- Anthropic plans a blockbuster IPO before Thanksgiving
- OpenAI launched Pages, a collaborative document editor for ChatGPT
- OpenAI also fired three employees for mishandling sensitive information
- Micron’s strong earnings boosted semiconductor stocks across the board
Bottom line: A week of recovery, expansion, and the usual tech drama. Markets stabilizing, Tesla building, Apple expanding its ecosystem, and the AI race heating up on multiple fronts.
