FSD v14.3 LITE Finally Arrived — Sylvie Gets the Update
After weeks of waiting and a false start, FSD v14.3 LITE is actually downloading on Sylvie right now. This is the update legacy Model S and X owners have been waiting for — 2026.38.5.1 on a 2018 Model S 100D.

Short version: I posted a video weeks ago saying legacy Model S and X were finally getting FSD v14 Lite. It didn’t happen then. But tonight, Sylvie is downloading update 2026.38.5.1 — FSD v14.3 Lite. On a 2018 Model S 100D. After all these years, it’s actually here.
The false start
A few weeks ago, I made a video about FSD v14 Lite finally rolling out to legacy Model S and X vehicles. The rumors were everywhere, the firmware trackers showed activity, and it genuinely looked like the wait was over. I posted the video. And then… nothing. The update didn’t come. Not to Sylvie, not to the fleet tracking it on social media, not to anyone I knew.
It was embarrassing in that specific way where you’re excited about something and you tell people about it and then it just doesn’t materialize. I’ve been following Tesla long enough to know better than to count firmware updates before they arrive, and I got ahead of myself anyway.
Tonight it’s real
Tonight, Sylvie showed the notification. Update 2026.38.5.1 is available. FSD v14.3 Lite. Downloading right now.
I walked out to the garage, half expecting it to be another mirage — the same notification that showed up weeks ago and then vanished. It’s real. The download is running. After years of wondering whether legacy S/X would ever see the v14 branch, it’s actually happening.
What this means
FSD v14.3 Lite isn’t the full v14 stack that ships on new vehicles, but it’s the biggest update legacy Hardware 3 vehicles have seen in a long time. Lite or not, it brings the v14 neural network architecture, the improved planning and control, and the smoother driving behavior that the newer cars have been enjoying for months.
For a 2018 Model S 100D — a vehicle that Tesla stopped making years ago, that was built before the Plaid era, before HW4, before all of it — this is significant. It means Tesla hasn’t forgotten the early adopters. The HW3 legacy fleet is still getting meaningful updates.
What I expect to see:
- Smoother intersection handling (the v14 driving policy is genuinely better)
- Better unprotected turns, which were the weak point on legacy builds
- The reduced false braking that v14 brought to newer vehicles
- Potentially tighter navigation on complex interchanges
What I don’t expect:
- Full end-to-end v14 highway stack (Lite is Lite for a reason)
- Dramatically different UI or FSD visualization (the legacy display pipeline is the same)
- Promise that every legacy S/X will see it this week — rollouts are staged
If you’re still waiting
Firmware rollouts are staged by VIN and region. Sylvie getting it tonight doesn’t mean your car gets it tomorrow. Check your software tab, make sure you’re on WiFi with good signal, and be patient. The fact that it’s hitting a 2018 Model S means the rollout is real and it’s expanding.
I’ll follow up with a driving video once the install finishes and I can actually test it on the road.
Bottom line: FSD v14.3 Lite is downloading on Sylvie right now — a 2018 Model S 100D on HW3. After a false start weeks ago and a long wait for legacy S/X owners, this update is real and it’s finally arriving. If yours hasn’t shown up yet, it’s coming.
