I Was Wrong — The Roadster IS Being Revealed Today
Earlier today I posted a video saying the Roadster would never ship on October 15th. The countdown on Tesla's website disagrees. The reveal is happening NOW. I have never been happier to be wrong.

Short version: I spent an entire video explaining why the Roadster would definitely not be revealed on October 15th. Tesla put a countdown on their website. The reveal is happening in one hour. I have never been happier to be wrong in my entire life.
The video I regret (in the best way)
Earlier today I posted — with full confidence, the kind of confidence that comes from watching Tesla miss deadlines for a decade — that the Roadster would absolutely not ship on October 15th. I said “zero of these will ship on this date. Zero.” I laid out the history: 2017 announced, delayed to 2020, then 2021, then 2022, then silence. Every earnings call someone asked about it. Every answer was “we’re still working on it.” I’d done the math. I’d seen the pattern. I was ready to be right.
And then Tesla put a countdown on their website.
Not a blog post. Not a tweet from Elon. A live countdown timer, ticking down to what appears to be the Roadster reveal event — on October 15th. The exact date I said would never happen.
Never been happier to be wrong
There’s a specific feeling when you get caught being confidently wrong about something you actually want to be wrong about. It’s embarrassing — I just posted a whole video saying this wouldn’t happen — and it’s also exhilarating, because holy crap the Roadster is actually being revealed today.
I’ve been following Tesla long enough to develop a healthy skepticism about timelines. The Roadster was announced in 2017. It was supposed to ship in 2020. Then it became a running joke — the car that’s always coming next year. I watched the 2017 concept with the same excitement as everyone, then watched year after year pass with nothing but “we’re still working on it” from earnings calls.
I internalized that pattern. I let it shape my expectations. When I heard whispers about an October 15th event, my brain said “no, you’ve seen this before, it’s another date the internet made up.”
Except it wasn’t.
Hindsight being 20/20, the signs were there. The Petersen Museum reveal on October 1 wasn’t just a PR stunt — it was the appetizer. The production Roadster was shown with real hardware, real specs, and a real timeline. The cold-gas thrusters were still on the spec sheet. The car looked sharper and meaner than the 2017 concept. The whole thing felt final in a way Tesla reveals usually don’t.
I should have connected those dots. I didn’t. And now the countdown is under an hour.
What this means
If the Roadster reveal event is actually happening today — and the countdown on Tesla’s official website says it is — then this is the most significant Tesla product launch since the Cybertruck. The Roadster has been the “one that got away” in Tesla’s lineup, the car that was supposed to show what happens when you build an EV with no compromises. A sub-2-second 0-60. SpaceX cold-gas thrusters. Over 600 miles of range (according to the original claim). A $200,000+ price point that puts it against the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Rimac Nevera.
The fact that Tesla is actually shipping this — and on a timeline that starts today — changes the conversation entirely. It means the 4680 cell production is where it needs to be. It means the tri-motor Plaid architecture has matured enough to spin off a halo product. It means Tesla decided the Roadster was worth finishing, even after the company spent years focused on volume production with the 3, Y, Cybertruck, and Semi.
Or — and this is the skeptical voice I clearly need to second-guess more — it could be a configurator opening, not a full reveal. Maybe deposits open today and deliveries are still a year out. Even that would be more than I expected this morning.
Let this be a lesson
I’m posting this follow-up for two reasons.
First, because you deserve the correction if you watched the earlier video. I said something confidently that turned out to be wrong, and if you made decisions based on it — skipped watching for news today, didn’t check the website, whatever — I owe you the update.
Second, because there’s something worth saying about being wrong on the internet. Getting caught with a bad take is embarrassing. It’s easier to let the earlier video stand and hope nobody scrolls back. But the whole point of TechnoWonderboy is that I’m learning this stuff alongside you, and sometimes learning means saying “I was wrong.”
I was wrong. The Roadster IS being revealed today. And I have never been happier about it.
Bottom line: I said the Roadster wouldn’t be revealed on October 15th. Tesla’s website says otherwise with a live countdown. The reveal is apparently happening in the next hour. I was wrong, I’m thrilled, and the Roadster is more real today than it has been in nine years.
